Opportunities for Outreach

"Ideas are planted at Church of the Servant. It takes a community to make them grow."

We have a strong belief that we are called to help. Many established community projects had their beginnings at Church of the Servant and we continue to participate in many of them. Some projects have an impact in just a short time while others fulfill an ongoing need in our community. Your participation at any level is welcome and appreciated. Ideas for outreach projects are always welcome.

Wilmington Interfaith Hospitality Network (WIHN) provides overnight shelter, two meals and transportation for homeless families. COS is one of dozens locally supporting congregations. You can help by preparing an evening meal, drive the morning or afternoon shuttle or be an overnight host. Church of the Servant members are needed this year on: 8/19, 8/22, 11/18, 11/21. Contact Keith McCahan at 443-4960 or kemcilm. For more information on the program: www.wihn.net

Empty Bowls is a program that raises money for local organizations fighting hunger.  It draws on the skills of local potters and chefs to produce a simple meal with a powerful message.  Empty Bowls of Wilmington occurs in even-numbered years.  Parishioners of COS have been involved every year since its inception in 2002. Each ticket holder enjoys a lunch of soup and bread and selects a beautiful handmade bowl to keep as a reminder of the “empty bowls” in our community.

Christmas Outreach -Your chance to play Saint Nicholas! Six local families, whose children attend Sunset Park and College Park Elementary schools receive gifts based on needs expressed by the families. Paper ornaments are placed on our COS Christmas tree loaded with wishes. Parishioners purchase and wrap their selection and bring them back to be blessed during our worship service. Our Christmas Outreach team delivers them along with a gift card for food and greetings and holiday wishes from our congregation. Those unable to shop donate funds to the Christmas project and our team uses these donations to buy gift certificates for the families.
