Well-known Southern humorist and author Celia Rivenbark will entertain attendees. Ms. Rivenbark is an award-winning newspaper columnist and freelance journalist whose work has been compared to a cross between Erma Bombeck and Hunter S. Thompson. Celia's latest book, Belle Weather: Mostly Sunny With a Chance of Scattered Hissy Fits (St. Martin’s Press, August 2008), will be available for sale and signing at the luncheon.

Savvy fashionistas will enjoy an informal fashion show during lunch and a boutique featuring up-scale resale items from the Bargain Box.

In lieu of tickets, guests will have the opportunity to contribute to Bargain Box at the end of the luncheon.

Celia Rivenbark has won national and state press awards and is the author of four humor collections: Bless Your Heart, Tramp (2000, reprinted in 2006, We're Just Like You, Only Prettier (2004), Stop Dressing Your Six-Year-Old Like a Skank (2006) and Belle Weather: Mostly Sunny With a Chance of Scattered Hissy Fits, available August 19, 2008. She lives in Wilmington with her husband and daughter.

The Bargain Box is a unique retail thrift store that accepts donations, sells a large variety of items in an attractive boutique, provides an outside sheltered free bin, recycles less saleable items, and supports community agencies with Bargain Bucks. It gives half its proceeds to Good Shepherd Ministries and the other half provides grants to other local community agencies. Since 2000, Bargain Box has worked with at least 49 public agencies and ministries to recycle clothing, house wares, books, toys and furniture to provide for persons or groups in need.

Volunteers are always welcome! Volunteer your time to help assist customers, straighten the library, polish donated items, pick-up furniture, research pricing for special items, clean items, write news articles and help with advertising. Volunteers are also needed to help maintain the garden and do handyman/carpentry work. Bargain Box meets at the Church of the Servant the third Tuesday of each month at 5:30 PM.

From the Community, Back to the Community. Hope and Help for Individuals and Programs through Bargain Bucks, a Free Bin and Grants to Community Agencies include: Good Shepherd Ministries, Mother Hubbard's Cupboard, Volunteers of America-Willow Pond, Food Bank of Coastal Carolina, Cape Fear Hospice, Helping Our Latin Americans, and much more.  Applications for grant requests and Bargain Bucks are available at The Bargain Box.

Store Hours: Tuesday-Friday 11am - 6pm; Saturday 10am - 5pm. Donations are accepted daily and open on Monday only for donations. All donations are tax deductible. Bargain Box is located behind the Market St. Burger King between N. Kerr Ave. and Barclay Hills Dr.
